Tips From Change Leaders - Tip 3

Someone recently sent us the page below. He wrote it to explain to others what the book was and why he was using it. My impression is that he gave it to his boss and two or three of his colleagues. He said he thought it was very helpful in his case.

The "Business Case" for Our Iceberg is Melting

The book's objectives:

To help organizations get better results now and/or prepare them to maintain their current great results into the future. More specifically...

1. When people in a group or organization read the book, they will have more productive conversations about change — using a shared language and framework, being more willing to put threatening issues on the table, seeing better what is needed, and better working in concert to make change happen.

2. Readers will resist change less, provide more initiative and leadership themselves, and cooperate more with initiatives from others.

3. Readers will have at least one useful insight about change in their own worlds, an insight that they can use immediately to help themselves and their organizations get better results. Their sense of urgency will increase: that they should act on their insight, need to act, and can gain personally.

Who is the audience?

Nearly everyone today, or in the foreseeable future, being affected by, needing to cooperate in the face of, or helping to drive a change of some magnitude. The change could be associated with new technologies, growth initiatives, reorganizations, new strategies, new threats of any sort, geographical expansion, turnarounds, mergers and acquisitions, etc.

Why would anyone pick up the book and read it?
  • The book is very user friendly: short (needing 30-45 minutes to read); jargon-free; without complex language; with illustrations (drawings) which are attractive, humorous, and advance the story.
  • The reader will be able to identify with the characters in the story.
  • It's on a topic that has much face validity as important.
  • It's a story which is much more fun and entertaining than nonfiction in general and change books in particular.
